November 14, 2017 – Offering single-origin hot chocolate and our area’s only bean-to-bar confections, Mutari Chocolate is opening its second shop in Santa Cruz on Friday, November 17, in the space next door to Assembly Restaurant formerly used for pop up events.
“We’re really excited about it and feel really fortunate. It’s a great next step for us,” says Katy Oursler, who owns the business with chef Stephen Beaumier. This will be a permanent location for Mutari—not a pop up—to sell hot chocolate, homemade marshmallows, cookies and chocolate bars.
On the menu will be a brand new hot chocolate chai, which uses chai made with fresh ginger and honey paste by Jozeph Shultz, owner of India Joze restaurant just down the street from Mutari’s original location at 504A Front Street.
Peppermint hot chocolate, pink Himalayan salt hot chocolate and several varieties of single-origin craft hot chocolate will also be available for customers to sip, as they sit on the outside patio and munch on Mutari’s popular chocolate chunk cookies and homemade marshmallows.
The shop will offer a new line of confections made with bean-to-bar chocolate and will feature White Label Chocolate’s bean-to-bar line—made at their Front Street Factory location using ethically-sourced cacao beans.
Oursler hopes the new location will lead to increased collaboration with Assembly owners Zach Davis and Kendra Baker and they are already working on a cacao nib bitters to be used in wintry cocktails.
Late night chocoholics rejoice! The new Mutari location will be open the same hours as the Front Street location, Fridays and Saturdays from noon to 10pm and Sundays from noon to 8pm.
