September 4, 2024 – The best cafeteria on the continent sits right on the edge of it.
That’s one reason the Esalen food hall would be epic even without the superlative, vegetarian-leaning, thoroughly seasonal buffet starring rotating hot entrees, rustic breads and the salad bar of dreams fueled by the on-site farm and garden: a number of its seats are right—and I mean right—on the crest of a cliff that drops 100 feet to frolicking otters.
The catch is that Esalen access, which includes three meals a day, is limited to employee friends and those attending workshops that dip into everything from Relational Gestalt to Tibetan Dream Yoga.
That changes in coming days: Sept. 10-12 for a special Altered States Workshop led by artist, scholar and traditional African cosmologist Marques Redd ($150); and Sept. 15 for the Esalen Artist Market ($50).
The 10am-8pm privileges include either the immersive workshop or artisan marketplace (11am-3pm), visits to the storied natural hot springs and adjoining bath house, and the incredible kitchen program focused on holistic foods.
Learn more via the limited-time-only opportunities via the Altered States day pass portal, the Artist Market flier and the nonprofit Esalen Institute website.
