September 12, 2017 – Chef Soerke Peters and his partner Amy Stouffer closed Friday on the landmark Village Corner restaurant in Carmel. The hardworking chef says his Basil Seasonal Dining will remain open and he will continue to cook there as they work to put their imprint on the new place.
“We want to spice it up a little and give it a new look,” says Peters. “But we want to wait and see what the regular customers really like before changing up the menu.”
Peters—who joked that he enjoys working 95 hours a week—said he hopes to add more seasonal items to the menu at Village Corner and eventually work to develop a new menu with chef Raimundo Perez, who is staying on, along with the entire serving staff. Stouffer will take over management of the restaurant.
“I just love the place,” the chef adds. “It has a beautiful patio and I can see turning it into the perfect California bistro.” Peters also wants to work on making Village Corner Carmel’s second Green Certified restaurant, the first was Basil and he says the whole process takes three to four months.
Village Corner opens at 7am and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Peters heads there first thing in the morning before going to Basil, which is just a few blocks away and opens at 11am.
One change he has already made is to start a Monday Night Football special, setting up a big screen on the patio and serving discounted drinks and appetizers. He says it’s a great place to stop by and cheer on your favorite team.
