Bonny Doon Art, Wine & Brew Festival on September 24

One of the auction items is a ride in airshow pilot Erik Tucker’s Piper J-3 Cub

September 16, 2022 – Get ready to have some fun in the redwoods of Bonny Doon at the event everyone loves to support, because it’s for education, the most fundamental underpinning of our democracy. Informed children with critical thinking skills and the ability to work as a team to problem-solve are the keys to a successful society.

VP of the Bonny Doon Community School Foundation and Festival Chair Angelina Hippen tells us last year’s post pandemic event was a reaffirmation of the strength and resilience of this community, and an outpouring of gratitude and support.  “We had a very successful event, with the biggest number of attendees in the history of the festival. We sold more tickets than ever and exceeded our fundraising goals through business sponsorships.”

The music and art-filled mountain event is hosted by the Bonny Doon Community School Foundation, which was founded in 1995 to support public education. “This is year two for me as festival co-chair,” says Hippen, “And I could not do it without my co-chairs, Kari Steele and Natalia Flechsig. This fundraiser directly benefits Bonny Doon Elementary school science and arts programs, like a new Maker’s space for kids to use, the Life Lab gardening program and a music teacher.”

This year the festival includes 13 wineries, (Beauregard, Florèz Wines, Hallcrest, Integrity, Inversion, Kings Mountain Vineyard, Kissed by an Angel, Madson Wines, McHenry Vineyards, Tom Brooks Wine, Roberts Ranch, Ser and West Cliff Wines), five breweries (Buena Vista, Discretion, Hillside Brewing, Highway 1 and Humble Sea) as well as Santa Cruz Cider. Enjoy good eats from five food vendors, including Parker Presents with fresh oysters, Epoch Eats, RiverDogs of Boulder Creek, Tacos El Chuy and Mattia Pizza.

“Serendipity” painting by Sue Holmes is one of the auction items

Artist Sue Holmes, whose plein air landscapes are inspiring renditions of local natural beauty, is donating her vibrant painting called “Serendipity,” which appears on the poster this year. You’ll also be treated to the works of Lupe Santos, who specializes in watercolor landscapes, jewelry by Wilder Sage and Soul Full studio with beaded earrings, silver and handmade clothing, as well as potters like Claychalet, with ceramic earrings, and Turq & Terra with Polymer clay jewelry, accessories and wall art. New this year, ARE Creations features the deep blue tones of cyanotype artwork, cards and earrings, and Hawk and Hammer’s drawings and linocut prints. LeJeune textiles and In Situ homemade jewelry offer eclectic one-of-a-kind wearable art.

Local favorites include Deerhaven hand poured soy candles, Field Notes goat milk soaps and Bonny Doon floral spritzers and botanicals-based soaps, salves, lotions, shampoo, body wash and lotions. Stock up on goodness from Tiny House Chocolates and Jam Queen’s preserves and marmalades.

And of course, there’s live music to keep everybody’s spirits soaring and feet tapping as you taste local wines and bites, get an early start on your Christmas shopping or ponder which silent auction items you can’t live without. This year, you’ll move to the sounds of Cuarteto Leon, whose salsa and Latin music will keep things lively.
