Big Sur Shuttle Planned for July

June 13, 2017 – Some relief may be in sight for Big Sur businesses that depend on tourism and are located on the so-called Big Sur Island, south of the collapsed Pfeiffer Canyon bridge and north of two slides blocking Highway One to the south.

Caltrans says a pedestrian trail through the canyon will open to the public on July 1 and Monterey County is planning a new shuttle bus service to take visitors from the parking lot at Andrew Molera State Park to the trailhead and then pick them up on the other side. The 10-seat shuttle service would then drop people off at businesses such as Post Ranch Inn and Nepenthe which are normally bustling with summer tourists.

Caltrans has pushed back the reopening of Highway 1 at Paul’s Slide until mid-July, but once that is cleared visitors will be able to access Big Sur via the winding Nacimiento-Fergusson Road from King CityClick here to read Kathryn McKenzie’s story “After the Storm” on how Big Sur is faring in the summer issue of EMB.
