July 28, 2015 – Good news for fans of Monterey’s Trailside Café. Owners closed the Monterey location last week to concentrate on their new Trailside Café and Beer Garden in Carmel Valley village, but now there’s word that the popular breakfast and lunch spot will be re-opening in August as the Wave St. Cafe. Veteran restauranteur Jack Hakim and his daughters Jennifer Kadosh and Lisa Allen are taking over the spot and will run it in addition to their retro, year-old Googie Grill in Seaside. Allen says they will give the place a facelift, put in new furniture and start over with a “fresh new vibe.”
“I’m really excited, but at the same time kind of overwhelmed,” she says. Like the old place, which first opened in 1998, Wave St. Cafe will serve an all-day breakfast and be open for lunch, but not dinner. Googie Grill is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Lunches at Wave St. Cafe will feature some new entrees, but Allen and her sister are still working on the menu. They are also still working out what coffee to serve at the expresso bar. Stay tuned for more when opening day gets closer.
