Enjoy Harbor Views at Woodward Marine Market

Woodward Marine Market in Moss Landing got a major facelift

January 10, 2023 – After so many storms you’re probably ready to sit in the sunshine and watch the sea otters frolic in the harbor. At least that’s what the folks at Woodward Marine Market in Moss Landing are hoping.

It’s a new dining spot taking shape out on the island past where Phil’s used to be in Moss Landing, in a beautifully remodeled and spiffed up former bait shop.

Co-owner and manager Jennifer Lawrence supervised the upgrade, which includes high-top seating for 20 inside the market and a patio out front with a fire pit, octopus sculpture and more harborside seating, where you could spend hours watching the the boats and the wildlife.

It’s a familiar view for chef Nichole Robbins, who worked for years as exec chef at Johnny’s Harborside in Santa Cruz and serves up seaside-inspired meals, like tempura battered fish and chips, fish tacos and seasonal seafood specials.

This week she is taking advantage of a boatload of crab that came in and serving freshly boiled Dungeness crab plates with corn and potatoes.

There are also burgers, grilled cheese, sweet potato fries, calamari and deep-fried artichoke hearts.

Fresh salads and soups, including a creamy clam chowder, are also on the menu and a charcuterie plate in in the works.

A collection of themed merchandise and gourmet goodies line one of the walls, and there’s a grab-and-go case with salads and sandwiches for those in a hurry.

The restaurant was originally planned to open in 2020, but delayed due to Covid. Now there is another delay with the beer and wine license, but Lawrence is hoping to iron out the hiccups soon.

Woodward Marine Market is open Tuesday to Saturday from 11:30am to 6pm, Sunday from 11:30am to 4pm, and closed Monday.
