October 11, 2022 – Highly-anticipated Faultline Brewing opens Wednesday in Scotts Valley, with seating by reservation only to start.
The two-story brewpub, with a 100-seat patio, is part of Scotts Valley’s new Hangar complex—which also hosts a branch of The Penny Ice Creamery and Zinnia’s home goods—abutting the former airstrip of Skypark airport.
“We are trying to give a sense of history to the building,” says owner Sam Ghadiri, who consulted with historians about the site and decorated the brewpub with old photos. One depicts the legally-sanctioned drag races that once took place on the airstrip in the 1940s.
“Community is important to Scotts Valley and it’s important to us, we want to create a place where community can come together,” he adds.

Outdoors there are 10-seat communal tables and cozy firepit seating areas, while inside on the mezzanine there is a wall with four 75-inch televisions connected together to make one ginormous screen—a perfect gathering place for game days.
Ten craft beers will be on tap, all created by brewer Peter Catizoni at Faultline’s flagship location in Sunnyvale. There is also a full bar.
“Peter makes all kinds of beer, but he really likes German varieties and we are the only ones that make a Kölsch-style ale,” says Ghadiri. Catizoni was brewmaster at Boulder Creek Brewing in the 1990s and Ghadiri also recommends trying his Black Velvet Stout. During October a special Oktoberfest beer is available.
In the kitchen, North Carolina native Mike Ward will be plating comfort food from an opening menu that revolves around burgers, salads and pizza. Every menu item has a suggested beer pairing.

Ghadiri’s favorite is the cheese skirt burger, grilled with a pool of melted cheese skirting the double patties. He also recommends the Buffalo Mac pizza, topped with spicy buffalo chicken, mac and cheese, garlic butter and scallions.
“The linebackers for San Jose State football team like to come in for that one,” he laughs.
Once the operation is up and running, Ghadiri plans to expand the menu, but for now he is finishing up inspections and hoping Faultine Brewing finds a place in the hearts and stomachs of Scotts Valley locals.
Faultine is located at 262 Mount Hermon Rd. Scotts Valley. It will be open seven days a week, 5pm-10pm weekdays and noon-10pm weekends.
