March 20, 2018 – When the second season of Big Little Lies debuts, expects to spot Nicole Kidman or maybe Reese Witherspoon sipping on a bottle of made-in-Monterey Katie’s Coldpress organic juice and imbibing in several other local products.
“The prop manager emailed me and said they wanted in inject a little more authenticity into the second season,” says owner Katie Raquel. “Then she asked if I knew about any other local products and I said hell yes!”
Raquel says she sent the production a list of about a dozen strictly local products and that the prop manager had been in touch with most of them to try and incorporate them into the show.
Just like we watch Big Little Lies and try to pick out which scenic local spots are used in the filming, this could become a new game for the second season. Pick out the local products! Raquel recommended the use of bottles of local elderberry syrup from Carmel Berry Co. and honey from Carmel Honey Company.
“Totes and our goodies were sent to the prop master for a certain HBO series set in Monterey. Look for a cameo in Season 2 of Big Little Lies,” said Carmel Berry Company’s owner Katie Reneker in a Facebook post.
Raquel also suggested the series try to include Revival Ice Cream made by Ron Mendoza and the delicious jams and pickles made at Happy Girl Kitchen by owners Jordan and Todd Champagne.
Almighty Kombucha and tea from the newly-launched Chai Five—both based in Monterey—were among her recommendations. But she didn’t stop there. Raquel says she suggested they get ahold of tee-shirts from The Treadmill running shop in Carmel and tote bags or children’s clothing from Monterey’s My Museum.
As for her own cold pressed juices, Raquel says she shipped about ten empty bottles to the set in West Hollywood, where they will be filled with fresh local juice. And when on-location filming takes place in Monterey later this year, they’ve promised to use the real thing.
