September 20, 2016 – After a one-year hiatus, due to fears of a monster el niño season, get ready for some serious hiking with stemware. Big Sur Food & Wine is back from November 3-5 and tickets went on sale Sunday.
It was a little iffy again this year due to the Soberanes fire, but organizers decided to go ahead with slightly smaller version of the popular festival.
“We want people to come to Big Sur and enjoy themselves, but to tread lightly and help boost the economy down there,” says CFO and events director Elsa Rivera.
There will be no Gateway to Big Sur event this year, because Hyatt Carmel Highlands is under renovation and another option, Ventana Inn, is still getting back on track after being closed due to the wildfire.
But lots of the most popular events are back, including four sessions of the Magical Mystery Tour, where guests can experience wine and food tasting at amazing private coastal properties.
Hiking with stemware is back and so is the Wine and Swine dinner at Henry Miller Library on Friday, November 4, with four as-yet-undisclosed top California chefs paying tribute to the dishes of New Orleans.
The Walkabout Marketplace is being held this time at the Loma Vista Gardens right next door to Big Sur Bakery, with 5 local chefs and 25 wineries participating.

Proceeds from Big Sur Food & Wine will support local nonprofits that benefit health, safety, education and the arts. In addition, this year organizers plan to fund fire relief efforts for those affected by the still-burning Soberanes fire.
