December 6, 2016 – Where some see a surplus, others see an opportunity. Eric Sonne of Del Rey Oaks says he and his wife Karen enjoy getting out of the fog to go wine tasting in Carmel Valley Village—where there are nearly two dozen wineries. But they noticed a lack of food in the tasting rooms, so they decided to open The Tasting Experience and Pairing to Go located in between the new I. Brand & Family Wines and Joyce Vineyards at 19 E. Carmel Valley Rd.
The experience will feature boutique wines not currently available in the village, six rotating beers on tap, including English Ales, and platters of charcuterie, cheeses, nuts and fruits. “We want to make everyone happy, including the husbands who may not like wine,” says Sonne, who also owns a non-emergency medical transportation business.
The Tasting Experience will incorporate a second business called Pairing To Go, which will deliver party platters that you can order just like ordering a pizza.
“It’s all about being different,” says Sonne. “There’s market share for everyone out there and with our beer and food, it will be nice to have something else.”
The couple have been waiting for 4 months for their ABC license to come through and now hope to open by the first of the year. If all goes well, they are planning a second outlet in mid-valley and a third elsewhere on the Monterey Peninsula.
