Sips to savor: three great wines to take your palate on a trip to somewhere fun

March 12, 2021 – Each week, we’ll share three great wines to take your palate on a sip trip to someplace fun and delicious. Grab a glass!

2019 Morgan Albarino, Arroyo Seco  – Do you love Albarino? This one, from Mission Ranch in Arroyo Seco, is a full throttle version, with aromas of melon, white peach and lime blossom, with a hint of river rock. It floods your palate with waves of juiciness, including mandarin, Meyer lemon, key lime and drippy white nectarine. Everything about this wine screams seafood! It’s a mouthwatering wine that makes you want more and more. Just delish with shellfish!

2019 Bernardus Rosella’s Vineyard Chardonnay – Classic Rosella’s, with a range of snappy citrus, including lemon buttercream and a hint of tropical pineapple and guava lurking in the background. A stunning wine that delivers satisfaction with every sip. It made the perfect accompaniment to watching the Queen’s coronation on The Crown. I pretended I was wearing long white gloves: made the wine taste even more luxurious.

2018 Boekenoogen Garrett’s Vineyard Pinot Noir – This is called “Dry Land, because the vines are dry farmed, yielding very little fruit. What there is brings intensity, leaning towards blackberry-Boysenberry pie with a ginger graham cracker crust. Beginning with the aromas, which are a bowl of Bing cherries, sweet vanilla, blackberry pie and a hint of run balls, this wine delivers fantastic breadth, oozing blue and black fruits, with a pleasing baking spice wallop of gingersnaps on the finish.
